Running around in Circles: Hiding under Layers
Documenting the process of layering this Illustration up. A personal Illustration I’ve developed to work on first and foremost branching out into colours other than the pastel shades I love, with the potential of making these into stickers and/or badges.
Bits
Sometimes (when Photoshop is behaving itself) after all the cutting and moving around in-between layers and documents to create one image. Another springs up before your eyes and without intending you’ve began a new project.
Treehouse was the theme I choose back in October for the Sketchbook Project 2012.
Treehouse prompted me to explore creative techniques from my childhood crossed with my nostalgia of family trips to the Lake District.
The title UNKNOT came about from unraveling memories from my childhood years. With my sketchbook exploring the escape (from “grown up feelings”) and the freedom I had as a child to discover myself (without the pressure of society).
My ideas developed along with my process of printing onto Lokta (handmade) paper. Developing techniques of fading out images after print. Using selected works I’d produced as a child to create abstract prints.

24th January 2012: Received email to say that my sketchbook has been cataloged into the Brooklyn Art Library; well done Royal Mail, I did have my doubts.

Do you ever forget whether or not you’ve actually washed your hair in the shower at 7am? One of life’s tiniest matters… What if you forgot who your family was?
My Nana has Alzheimer’s. Which as saddening as this is, I find it fascinating what the brain does to its memories and how it forms its thoughts. There’s now no way of ever knowing what my Nana is thinking or what she remembers, so through my own interpretations and knowledge I’m producing a series of images as to how I think she remembers her past. Of course some of my own memories, particularly from childhood years in the Lake District are distorted to myself, to further tangle piecing this project together.
